Community Services Officer Const. Dave Clark, Maggie Lavigne, chair of the Eganville Neighbourhood Watch Program and Lake Clear resident John Shane erected the first Cottage Watch sign around the lake last Thursday.  It is hoped more feeder roads around the lake will adopt the program to curb break-ins and other criminal acts.

When the Neighbourhood Watch program was implemented in Eganville, under the direction of Maggie Lavigne, it was only a matter of time until the successful program spread to neighbouring cottage country.

Guy Jamieson, President of the Lake Clear Property Owners' Association has been instrumental in working with Mrs. Lavigne in obtaining large Cottage Watch signs which are being erected on feeder roads leading into Lake Clear.  Working with Const. Dave Clark, the Federation of Cottagers Association (FOCA) and the LCPOA, Manning road resident John Shane has assumed the role of liaison person.  His duties include the co-ordinating of the work of passing out information pamphlets and identification stickers to all property owners on Manning road, while asking them to be more vigilant of and to report any suspicious activities in the area.

Mr. Jamieson will be implementing a similar program on Trebbien Road next summer and is encouraging other property owners to start a similar program on other main feeder roads to the lake.

"With the rash of cottage break-ins in the past it was felt that Lake Clear property owners should start banning together to try and cut down on criminal activities," said Mr. Jamieson.
